About The Position

The Working Families Party (WFP) is seeking a Central Ohio Organizer to help build their grassroots base and organizing operation in Columbus. This role will support legislative, policy, and electoral campaigns by driving a program to recruit, develop, and support members and volunteer leaders. The Organizer will also identify and build alliances with other organizations to influence decision-makers. The WFP is a progressive party fighting for a nation that works for the many, not the few, and believes in recruiting, training, and supporting transformational candidates. The role involves building relationships with individual activists, members, and leaders, and organizing various events such as phone banking, text banking, canvassing, and postcarding for the 2026 election cycle. The Organizer will also create opportunities for grassroots engagement on issue campaigns and movement-building work, identify volunteer team needs, and recruit members and activists. Experimenting with engagement strategies to reach potential supporters and deepen volunteer leadership is key. The position requires managing contact lists, maintaining database records, and contributing to the development of party objectives and principles. The Organizer will need to evaluate changing conditions and modify plans accordingly, and perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 2 or more years of experience organizing
  • Ability to train and develop skills of volunteer leaders
  • Belief in leadership development and that growth relies on an individual’s ability to have ownership of important projects and achieve success for themselves
  • Excellent communication, listening, and executive skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Smart political judgment, including the ability to anticipate how friends and opponents will respond to our actions or statements
  • Very detail-oriented and ability to multi-task
  • Experience working with a diverse group of volunteers and supporters across all demographics and backgrounds– especially race, gender, and class
  • Experience with organizing tools: Spoke, Slack, Mobilize, and Action Network
  • Familiarity working with VAN

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with individual activists, members, and leaders
  • Organize phone banking, text banking, canvassing, and postcarding events for 2026 election cycle
  • Organize opportunities for grassroots engagement on issue campaigns and in movement-building work
  • Identify volunteer team needs and work with them to recruit members and activists to do that work
  • Experiment with engagement strategies to reach out to potential supporters and current volunteers, move them up the WFP ladder of engagement, and deepen their leadership.
  • Manage contact lists and maintain up-to-date records in our database
  • Uses skills to contribute to development of party objectives and principles and to achieve goals in creative and effective ways. Generally has authority to plan, prioritize, and handle duties within the assigned area of responsibility
  • Evaluates changing conditions and modifies plans accordingly
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
