About The Position

The Division of Family and Child Health (DFCH) of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is responsible for creating and overseeing programs, policies, services, and environments that support the physical and socio-emotional health of New York City families and children. The vision of the DFCH is that every child, woman, and family is empowered to reach their full health and development potential. The Office of School Health (OSH) is an important part of this division, ensuring the health and well-being of students, improving the efficiency of health services, and contributing to a healthier and safer school environment. This role is specifically open to permanent Public Health Nurse (School Health) employees.

Requirements

  • A valid New York State Registered Nurse License.
  • A BSN degree or Associate of Nursing Degree from a regionally accredited college or university, or one recognized by the New York State Education Department.
  • Ability to perform Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

  • Knowledge of health care agencies and services provided in the New York metropolitan area.

Responsibilities

  • Answer and return all calls to the Diabetes Medication Administration Form (DMAF) Hotline.
  • Provide school nurses with current approved DMAF orders in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate to coordinate care between OSH providers, endocrinologists, parents, DNEs, and school nurses for students with diabetes requiring DMAF approval, adhering to OSH policy.
  • Update the nursing's DMAF Hotline log daily.
  • Provide approved DMAF to OSH and agency nurses who may not have access to the Automated Student Health Record (ASHR).
  • Contact endocrinologists for clarification of DMAF orders.
  • Reach out to nurses and parents/guardians for signed consent or missing information from DMAF to expedite DMAF approval.
  • Liaise with the OSH medical unit for status and updates on DMAF approvals.
  • Ensure DMAF orders for NYC school children are approved expeditiously and are recorded in ASHR.
