About The Position

This position involves continuous monitoring of cardiac rhythms and other clinical parameters within the Central Monitoring Unit (CMU). The role includes measuring, interpreting, and documenting cardiac rhythm strips, as well as operating and troubleshooting cardiac monitoring hardware and software. The Central Monitor Tech is responsible for patient admissions, discharges, and transfers within the monitoring system and communicating rhythm changes to direct care nursing staff. Additionally, the role provides clerical and clinical support to inpatient care areas, including managing communications, chart preparation, supply management, and assisting with patient services. Professionalism, efficient time utilization, and a focus on customer service and patient safety are key aspects of this role.

Requirements

  • Previous healthcare experience.
  • Typing and basic computer skills.

  • Completion of assigned education and competencies.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Continuous monitoring of cardiac rhythms and other clinical parameters.
  • Cardiac rhythm strip measurement, interpretation, and documentation.
  • Operation and troubleshooting of cardiac monitoring hardware and software.
  • Admission, Discharge, and Transfer of patients within the cardiac monitoring system.
  • Communication with direct care nursing staff regarding rhythm changes using hospital-approved devices.
  • Yearly competencies and skills verification as assigned.
  • Strict adherence to hospital Red Rules.
  • Operation and troubleshooting of office equipment including phones, fax machines, printers, copiers, etc.
  • Initiates, receives, and directs communications; relaying messages and information to team members accurately, timely, and professionally using hospital-approved devices.
  • Chart management including set-up upon admission, break-down upon discharge, and review to ensure completeness and appropriate labeling.
  • Checks and restocks office supplies, and patient rooms as directed.
  • Arranges patient transportation, follow-up appointments, and other services as directed.
  • Maintains work stations free of clutter and non-work related items.
  • Printing of documents required for admission, discharge, and transfer of patients from the department.
  • Performs other secretarial duties as assigned by charge nurse/manager/director/hospital supervisor.
  • Assist direct care staff with donning/doffing of personal protective equipment (PPE) in the isolation unit.
  • Perform routine cleaning of high contact surfaces in the isolation unit and other areas as directed.
  • Perform routine adenosine triphosphate (ATP) testing in the isolation unit and other areas as directed.
  • Maintains effective relationships with others.
  • Utilizes time efficiently.
  • Timely completion of all assigned education, competencies, and skills tests.
  • Constant focus on customer service and patient safety.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
