About The Position

Under the direction of the Patient Access Director, the incumbent is responsible to perform a wide variety of duties to include scheduling and coordinating patient procedures for diagnostic and therapeutic exams scheduled at designated Samaritan locations. Diagnostic Imaging service workflow is scheduled and coordinated with other hospital services according to department protocols, while ensuring an environment which promotes a positive patient experience.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent education is required.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • English language and knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to make independent decisions within his/her area of responsibility.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Good verbal skills in the English language required daily.
  • Excellent telephone skills required.
  • Answer phones and guide patients through this sometimes difficult process by kindly talking them through the steps and answering their questions and concerns.
  • Ability to learn use of all equipment necessary to perform job.
  • Excellent PC skills including word processing and data entry required.
  • Ability to adapt in fast paced, stressful environment.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology to include diagnosis/CPT codes.
  • Accurate grammar, spelling and punctuation skills necessary.
  • Work is performed in accordance with instruction and procedures, but requires the ability to recognize problem situations and refer them to the appropriate staff member.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a working knowledge of all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and preps to appropriately coordinate resources for multiple hospital department and Imaging modalities to ensure quality procedure outcomes.
  • Responsible for accurate completion of procedural screenings and ensuring patient lab work falls within critical values necessary for all invasive procedures and communicating procedural preparations and educating patients on specific aspects of the procedure that they will be having.
  • Obtains correct and current patient insurance information for access management to procure pre-certification and authorization for appropriating maximum reimbursement.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of medical necessity guidelines and informs provider office of patient responsibility and the need for the patient to sign an Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) if medical necessity guidelines are not met.
  • Coordinates patient procedure times with several resources, modalities and facilities in conjunction with radiologist presence.
  • Disseminates changes in schedule protocol as required.
  • Enters information obtained into appropriate hospital information systems to assure appropriate and accurate patient information for all modalities.
  • Coordinates, maintains and distributes patient information in Diagnostic Imaging to insure efficient patient throughput.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Schedule patients for exams, and input/update patient information in our medical system.
  • Familiar with insurance verifications and authorizations.
  • Participate in various projects and/or meetings, and complete other tasks as assigned by management.
  • Review faxed referral and authorization documents for accuracy.
