About The Position

This is a 1.0 FTE/0.80 cFTE Associate Professor position that will serve within the Section of Hematology, Oncology, and Bone Marrow Transplantation–Cellular Therapeutics (BMT‑CT). This position carries primary responsibility for delivering independent, high-quality inpatient and outpatient clinical care, providing leadership within the clinical program, and contributing meaningfully to the academic, educational, and service missions of the School of Medicine. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other attending physicians and physician-scientists to supervise advanced practice providers, fellows, residents, and students. Responsibilities include leadership of inpatient rounds, performance of procedures, facilitation of family conferences, outpatient clinic care, and the development, leadership, or meaningful participation in clinical, translational, outcomes-based, or quality improvement scholarship. This is a predominantly clinical role, with academic effort commensurate with experience, interests, and external funding.

Requirements

Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO); must be board certified in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and maintenance of continuous certification without lapse.
Active Colorado state license and DEA certification.
Current compliance with human subjects research certifications and requirements without lapse.
Experience independently managing and caring for pediatric hematology, oncology, and/or bone marrow transplant patients in an academic medical setting/practice.
At least 6 years of independent clinical practice in a pediatric Hematology/Oncology/BMT environment after completion of fellowship.
Must successfully pass a drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado.
Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check.
Continuous Maintenance of Board Certification(s) is required after employment.
Must meet all Children’s Hospital Colorado credentialing requirements and continuous active medical staff status.
Must maintain a current Colorado State Medical License and DEA certification.
Ability to effectively communicate professionally, clearly and effectively with staff and faculty within and outside the Section, Department and/or hospital.
Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients and families and colleagues.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of best practices in patient safety and quality care.
Ability to write orders, including diagnostic tests, medications, care instructions, and adding to patients’ electronic medical records.
Ability to perform selected procedures including but not limited to lumbar punctures with or without intrathecal chemotherapy and bone marrow aspirates and biopsies.

Nice To Haves

8 or more years of experience in the independent care of pediatric hematology/oncology/BMT patients.
Participation in academic hematology as evidenced by professional society membership and bibliography/academic productivity.
Clinical research experience, including functions as a principal investigator.
Advanced degree(s) or certificates in clinical science or quality or process improvement.
Familiarity with or fluency (preferred) in medical Spanish, meeting hospital criteria for language certification qualification.

Responsibilities

Approximately 8 weeks/year coverage as the attending physician responsible for the Hematology clinical service based at Children’s Hospital Colorado.
Shared coverage of Hematology outpatient clinics at Children's Hospital Colorado which may also include occasional clinic coverage at the South or North Campus sites or off-site outreach clinics within and outside Colorado. At this time, it is anticipated that you would have approximately 2 – 2.5 days per week of clinic when you are not on the inpatient service.
Shared holiday and weekend call with other Hematology faculty members. Current allocation is attached to inpatient weeks of service and may be adjusted based on patient and staffing volumes, additional grant funding to decrease clinical workload and similar adjustments.
Shared coverage in Procedure Clinics for routine outpatient procedures on heme/onc/BMT-CT patients prorated according to cFTE and a minimum of 3 (three) procedure days per calendar year.
Maintain an active scholarly focus through research or quality improvement initiatives.
Utilize protected academic time to lead or contribute to academic projects.
Pursue external or philanthropic funding.
Disseminate scholarly work through publications and presentations.
Teach fellows, residents, and students in inpatient and outpatient settings.
Mentor trainees and junior faculty as appropriate.
Support the educational mission of the Section and Department.
