About The Position

The centralized scheduler will receive incoming calls for scheduling radiology procedures; insure proper instruction of preps with lack of scheduling conflicts; maintain scheduling to ensure completeness and accuracy of all radiology modalities; exhibit excellent customer relations to patients, physicians, and co-workers. The Pre-certification Specialist is responsible for collecting complete, accurate information, securing appropriate physician orders, assisting in resolution or problems associated with departmental activities, effective communication and customer relation skills, ability to be self directed. Serves as a liaison for relaying patient authorization information to staff and physicians. Maintains records on all referrals/pre-certifications. Maintains patient follow-up tickler system. Provides back up telephone coverage for the Scheduling department as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Formal training which will probably be indicated by a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to type 45wpm with a minimum 6 months clerical experience in a medical office setting.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent phone skills.
  • Ability to work in close situations with co-workers.
  • Ability to follow through on matters started by a co-worker (for example, handle return phone calls made by a co-worker when he/she cannot accept a call).
  • Willingness to pick up on any matter that has been started by a co-worker (flexibility).
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Familiarity with ICD-9 and CPT codes.
  • Good organizational skills.
