About The Position

The groundskeeper maintains the cemetery grounds for four Salvation Army cemeteries in the Town of Hare Bay and the Salvation Army Cemetery in the Town of Dover. This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program and applicants must meet program eligibility requirements, including age and legal status criteria. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents. Individuals who require employer-specific work authorization (e.g., international students on study permits) are not eligible under this program.

Requirements

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Must be willing to obtain a Criminal Police Check
  • Complete the Statement of Applicant for Work with Children Youth and Vulnerable Adults
  • Must sign the Code of Conduct Receipt & Acknowledgement Form
  • Up to 1 year of prior related experience in lawn maintenance and general familiarity with lawn equipment.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety Standards.
  • Represent the organization in a professional, and engaging manner.
  • Ability to work independently and also participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment.
  • Self-motivated and reliable

  • Effective organizational and time management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the general upkeep of external property such as mowing lawns, picking up litter, sweeping sidewalks, gardening/watering and planting shrubs, pruning and weeding and raking
  • Services external amenities
  • Picks up equipment and supplies
  • Ensure proper storage and basic maintenance of equipment
  • Be responsible for managing your own time
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Use personal prescribed safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer.
  • Report any workplace hazards, dangers, safety issues, injuries, or illness’ immediately and ensure care is taken with all equipment and property.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
