About The Position

This work involves all aspects of maintenance and construction in the public right of way, to include site preparation, concrete form building, placement of concrete, concrete finishing, and other related public works tasks as assigned. Employees in this class are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all equipment used in concrete and masonry construction practices. Employees in this class are also responsible for the safe and efficient operation of equipment used for snow and ice removal. The work includes all aspects of concrete and masonry construction, including manual labor tasks such as loading of materials; concrete saw cutting and placing masonry, rock, and concrete utilizing the equipment of the trade when necessary. Employees in this class will be required to coordinate their tasks and assignments with co-workers. Cement Finishers normally receive their work assignments and instructions from a supervisor and are then responsible to direct the work of other appropriate personnel to complete the assignments. The work of this classification is reviewed by a superior for conformance with instructions, City construction standards, care and safety exercised in the field, and other established performance criteria.

Requirements

  • Regular Civil Service status (completed initial probationary period).
  • Five (5) years of verifiable experience involving concrete form building, site preparation, placement of concrete, and concrete finishing work, OR A minimum of three (3) years of experience assigned to the M & O Division, Streets Work Group of Everett’s Public Works Department working with concrete form building, site preparation, placement of concrete, and concrete finishing work.
  • Possession of, and the ability to maintain, a valid Washington State Commercial Driver License (C.D.L.) with the necessary endorsements.
  • Certified within one year of appointment in area of work as required by a regulating agency or as available from a professional organization, e.g., certified by the Regional Road Maintenance Program as an erosions specialist or equivalent (Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead - CESCL).

Responsibilities

  • Ascertain exact measurements on sidewalks, curbs, corners, steps, walls and other concrete construction and repair jobs; supervises setting of forms, mixing of cement, and placement of concrete.
  • Supervise, instruct, and conduct work of concrete construction in a level plane, walls, and footings, including clearing, grading, and setting forms, as well as mixing, wheeling, and placing concrete.
  • Patch new and old concrete work where holes have developed.
  • Perform related civil construction work tasks as required.
  • Operate equipment to perform the above work; operate equipment for snow and ice removal.
