About The Position

The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first-party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Material Science, or Engineering discipline , or a specialized field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP, etc.), or equivalent practical experience.
4 years of experience in developing and qualifying Li-ion cells with external partners on advanced materials, components, processes and cell designs.
Experience using Statistical Process Control tools (such as Minitab or JMP) and data tools (Python, SQL, Matlab, etc).

Nice To Haves

Master's degree or PhD in Chemistry, Material Science, or Engineering discipline , or a related field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP).
Experience with battery test conditions, requirements and equipment (Impedance meters, Maccor or Arbin battery tester, etc).
Experience in the lab or pilot line environment on battery cell building and testing.

Responsibilities

Identify, evaluate, and prototype new cell chemistries and cells in lab/pilot environments to maximize energy density, cycle life, and safety.
Drive Design of Experiments (DOEs) to optimize cell design, evaluate novel materials (anodes, cathodes, electrolytes, separators), and refine process parameters.
Partner with advanced material suppliers and external Research & Development (R&D) partners to co-develop, integrate, and source components into test vehicles.
Define and execute qualification matrices to evaluate advanced components, processes, and cell designs, and conduct data-driven performance analysis.
