The Battery Cell DV/PV Testing Engineer executes design verification (DV) and process verification (PV) testing on battery cells used in Ford Energy’s battery energy storage systems, focusing primarily on cell performance and life characterization. The position has co-equal responsibility for hands-on internal DV/PV testing, tracking and analyzing external cell supplier testing, and diagnosing cell-level failures through teardown and root-cause analysis. The engineer also directly supports production teams during PV builds and contributes to evaluation of future cell chemistries for BESS applications. The role uses cell-level testing equipment—including battery cyclers, environmental and thermal chambers, and data acquisition systems—to generate performance and life data. It requires experience with DVP&R/PVP&R test plans for lithium-ion or sodium-ion cells and the ability to translate test data into engineering conclusions. The engineer works with cell design, pack integration, BMS, quality, and supplier engineering teams to assess cell performance, life, and reliability before and during production ramp. The position is based in Dearborn, Michigan, and is hybrid, with a requirement to be onsite four or more days per week. Work may take place in office, laboratory, manufacturing, or supplier environments, depending on program needs. Occasional work in high-voltage or industrial environments and occasional travel to supplier, manufacturing, laboratory, or customer sites may be required. The role will initially be employed by Ford and is expected to transition to its wholly owned battery energy storage subsidiary within one year. Visa sponsorship is not available.
