About The Position

The CEI Technician is responsible for the daily monitoring activities of asphalt paving, concrete, and earthwork for conformance of client/contractor work on various projects to ensure materials meet specifications. In addition, the position will perform engineering inspection activities such as construction observation and field sampling of asphalt for construction applications. The inspector will be required to record daily notes for engineering staff.

Requirements

HS diploma or equivalent required; technical college coursework in engineering preferred.
2 or more years of highway construction or asphalt roadway experience preferred.
Experience in DOT QC/inspection work required with current certifications is required.
Experience as a Certified Erosion Control Inspector in the state of North Carolina is preferred.
Strong written and communication skills required.
Proficient in Microsoft programs and ability to learn new technology.
Above-average math and problem-solving skills are required.
Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in English.
Current driver’s license with a safe driving record is required.
Must be legally authorized to work in the US.

Responsibilities

Ensure all materials, procedures, and safety rules comply with the latest NCDOT standards.
Sample and test construction materials to ensure they meet the quality requirements of the project specifications.
Material sampling of concrete, asphalt, and aggregates.
Record daily construction inspection notes for CEI document management.
Interact and communicate effectively with colleagues and client representatives.
Attend meetings and interact with clients and third-party personnel.
Must use diplomacy in difficult and stressful situations.
