About The Position

Sompo is hiring a Summer 2027 Ceded Reinsurance Accounting Intern for its Ceded Re team. The 10-week internship is designed to provide professional growth and may lead to long-term opportunities for successful candidates interested in the insurance and reinsurance industry. The position is based in Sompo’s New York City office and immerses interns in the team’s day-to-day activities, supporting data, systems, and projects in the Ceded Re accounting process.

Ceded Re Accounting supports the Global Ceded Reinsurance Team by processing, recording, and reporting ceded reinsurance premiums and loss recoverables accurately and on time. The team ensures data is captured in reinsurance systems and collaborates with other departments to support the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of processing, financials, and statements. Interns gain foundational accounting experience and participate in leadership learning, networking activities, and a project presented to their manager and mentor.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program studying Business, Accounting, Economics, or a related major.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical, quantitative, and interpersonal skills.
• Interest in an accounting-related field and in learning reinsurance contract and language skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment with rapidly changing priorities and demands.
• Strong proficiency using Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the United States without restriction.

Responsibilities

• Develop an understanding of the company’s ceded reinsurance accounting practices.
• Contribute to the Ceded Reinsurance Accounting team.
• Assist with processing and preparing account statements and analyzing data and statistics.
• Review contract setup in reinsurance systems.
• Liaise with the Underwriting/Ceded Reinsurance Operations team regarding data, systems, and projects for assigned ceded treaties.
• Assist the team with special projects.
• Participate in leadership learning, networking activities, and a project presentation to a manager and mentor.
