About The Position

Waste Pro of Louisiana is hiring Travel Swing Drivers. This role requires the driver to have their own transportation to travel between Louisiana and Texas. The position involves operating a variety of refuse collection vehicles on pre-assigned and special routes to pick up garbage, yard waste, commercial cans, or recycling. The driver will oversee the work of helpers, perform pre-trip and post-trip truck checks and cleaning, and other related duties. Performance is reviewed through direct observation and discussion of problems.

Requirements

  • Must have a Class A or B CDL valid for the state in which the position works.
  • Requires a safe driving record.
  • Requires 2 years of waste industry driving experience within the past 7 (seven) years.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older.
  • Understand refuse collection policies, procedures, guidelines and practices.
  • Understanding of Department of Transportation and State requirements for operators of commercial motor vehicles.
  • Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
  • See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
  • Exhibit normal range of body motion.
  • Drive a front-end, side, rear-end, or roll off loading refuse truck, including right-hand driver's position on certain equipment, observing legal and defensive driving practices.
  • Manipulate heavy equipment control levers.
  • Follow a designated refuse collection route or work schedule.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Maintain written records and service responses.
  • Must be able to speak and read English well enough to communicate with customers, co-workers, dispatch and supervisors, understand highway and traffic signals, and be able to make legible entries on paperwork.
  • Must have own transportation to travel between Louisiana and Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Safely drive a truck on pre-established routes in accordance with Decision Driving principles within prescribed time.
  • Collect and dump garbage and refuse into refuse trucks while covering a designated route in a residential or commercial zone.
  • Unload refuse trucks at the landfill, transfer station, or similar facility.
  • Operate compaction and lift equipment on various types of refuse trucks.
  • Provide courteous and expeditious customer service in all aspects of refuse operation.
  • Ensure garbage and recyclables are picked up and transferred properly.
  • Tag improper refuse containers and waste.
  • Answer questions for residents and direct them to appropriate contacts.
  • Perform daily pre and post-trip inspections as set forth by Waste Pro procedures and D.O.T. guidelines.
  • Complete Safety Lane activity and DVIR daily.
  • Maintain a clean truck and wash the exterior weekly.
  • Perform a variety of manual duties in the clean-up of scattered refuse.
  • Move and empty large trash bins using truck hydraulics.
  • Prepare, maintain, and submit required company and regulation-mandated reports and documents.
  • Assist other routes for completion, attend community events, or deliver bins and/or carts.
  • Be responsible for all persons working on the vehicle during the designated route.
  • Comply with all Department of Transportation and State requirements for operators of commercial motor vehicles.
  • May be required to work during emergency situations.
  • Attend and participate in corporation-sponsored training courses as assigned.
  • Keep up to date on current technology as job appropriate.
  • Perform any additional job duties assigned by the Supervisor.
