About The Position

Incumbent will be primarily responsible for meeting the transportation needs for Ponca Tribe of Nebraska citizens and the general public, including persons with disabilities. This role involves operating vehicles, assisting passengers, maintaining records, and adhering to schedules and policies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Able to obtain First Aid, CPR and Defensive Driving Course certification within three months of hire date, if not already certified.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access programs.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and be insurable.
  • Successfully pass drug and alcohol testing, motor vehicle, education, character, and criminal background checks.
  • Able and willing to travel.
  • Possess a Class B CDL with passenger endorsement.

Nice To Haves

  • First Aid, CPR and Defensive Driving Course certified.
  • One or more years experience working with Native Americans or Native American organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Providing transportation for Ponca Tribe of Nebraska citizens and the general public including persons with disabilities in a cheerful, pleasant and professional manner, including but not limited to the areas of Norfolk, Niobrara, Omaha, Sioux City and Lincoln.
  • Operating vehicles, wheelchair lifts/securements, computers, cell phones, scheduling software and other equipment as necessary.
  • Assisting passengers to and from the vehicle.
  • Maintaining a clean and presentable vehicle according to policy or direction of supervisor.
  • Maintaining appropriate monthly records and reports.
  • Working closely and cooperatively with Ponca Tribe of Nebraska staff in order to meet transportation needs.
  • Following a planned route according to a time schedule.
  • Keeping track of when passengers get on/off the vehicle via transportation software.
  • Collecting fares for each transport as applicable and maintaining proper record keeping.
  • Continuously learning and implementing all new procedures, regulations and requirements.
  • Driving in adverse weather conditions.
  • Inspecting vehicles at the beginning of each day.
  • Maintaining complete confidentiality & honoring the Privacy Act.
  • Respecting the rights, dignity, and privacy of riders.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Maintaining or attaining CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Attending and completing Passenger and Safety Securement, Defensive Driving, Distracted Driving and Drug and Alcohol Awareness courses.
  • Following the drug and alcohol policy and testing requirements.
  • Knowing and following the mission, organization, program requirements, and policies of the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska.
  • Being well versed in and abiding by transportation laws, rules and regulations.
