About The Position
Messiah Lifeways is a non-profit organization located in Mechanicsburg, PA, that provides a network of services for adults, 55 and better living in South Central PA. Our roots trace back to 1896, when the brethren in Christ Church founded Messiah Home in Harrisburg, PA, to serve older adults with Christ-like love. The CDL Transportation Assistant will assist with the transportation of passengers as defined by guests either resident, family member, team member, or the general public for the purpose of activities, errands, group outings, special events, and trips by request of either resident.
Requirements
- Knowledge of/experience in Situational Awareness & Safety Focus - Maintains constant awareness of surroundings, road conditions, resident needs, and potential safety hazards to prevent accidents or injuries
- Knowledge of/experience in Team Collaboration – Works cohesively with transportation staff, coordinators, and other departments to ensure a smooth operation
- Knowledge of/experience in Customer-focused professional - Known for delivering warm, attentive, and solution-oriented service to residents, team members, and the general public
- Knowledge of/experience in Effective and efficient communicator - Proficient in oral and written communication across diverse audiences
- Valid Driver’s License, no more than 1 violation within the last 5 years
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must possess or be able to obtain within 3 months after hire, a Class B CDL Drivers License with passenger endorsement
Nice To Haves
- Learn and apply proper methods of securing wheelchairs for safe transportation of wheelchair-bound residents
- Flexible, and able to transport on off-hours, such as mornings, evenings or weekends
- Follow handwritten directions and/or a map to arrive at the proper destination
Responsibilities
- Transport residents and/or supplies as requested by means of wheelchair van, van, car or bus
- Keep records of mileage and time for Transportation Coordinator records for billing purposes and per DOT regulations
- Report mechanical problems and fluid levels (windshield washer, oil, antifreeze, etc.) with vehicles to the Transportation Coordinator in a timely manner to ensure proper repairs
