This position is responsible for studying the Texas DPS Commercial Driver Handbook, Vehicle Inspection pre-trip, and other training material outside of training class to prepare for written knowledge tests and the road test. The trainee must follow training requirements to successfully pass up to 5 written knowledge tests to obtain a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP). They must also successfully pass the 3-event test: Vehicle Inspection Pre-Trip, Basic Control Skills, and Road Test to obtain a CDL. The trainee will attend classroom training to obtain a CLP, Entry Driver Training Theory, and on-site Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Training within the required program deadline, while being alert and prepared at all times with limited noise distractions. The trainee will assume charge of the bus while training behind the wheel, be receptive to feedback and guidance, and follow directions provided by the Safety and Training Team. They will be responsible for all DPS fees involved with upgrading their current license to a class B CDL with P/S endorsements. The trainee must report to work on time and be absent only with good cause to ensure timely program completion, notifying the Safety Team of absences. A good working relationship with the Safety Team and Service Center staff must be maintained, along with accessibility and consistent communication during the program duration. The trainee will attend all required staff developments and complete any required trainings. They will follow the Dallas ISD Driver Code of Conduct, exhibit good judgment in decision-making and problem-solving, work effectively with others, and follow the chain of command as noted in organizational policy. All other tasks and duties as assigned will also be performed.
