About The Position

Rear Load Truck Drivers service customers by collecting and hauling waste or recycling materials to a disposal site or recycling plant. Drivers serve various routes and areas, providing safe, compliant service and professional customer interactions. The position involves frequent entering and exiting the truck, handling containers and bulk items, keeping the truck clean, and completing route and inspection logs. The role does not manage employees.

Requirements

At least a valid Class B CDL.
A valid DOT Medical Card or ability to obtain one before hire.
At least 19 years of age.
No more than three moving violations within the last two years.
No DUI or OVI within the last five years, or two within the last ten years.
Ability to read and understand a map.
Good written and verbal communication skills to communicate professionally and effectively with internal and external customers.
Excellent truck driving and maneuvering skills.
Ability to drive while pulling a trailer.
Ability to read and speak English well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training.
Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends as needed.
Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
Legally eligible to work in the United States.
Valid driver’s license, if applicable.
Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
Ability to travel between offices as required.
Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 75 pounds; rarely lift, carry, push, or pull up to 100 pounds.
Frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; climb and/or balance; and sit, stand, or walk.
Work continuously outdoors in changing temperatures and wet or humid conditions, and in areas with dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter.
Possible exposure to high-traffic conditions, tight driving areas, and residential and commercial waste.

Nice To Haves

General knowledge of truck mechanics.
One to two years of CDL truck driving experience.
Waste industry experience.

Responsibilities

Collect trash or recycling by emptying containers into the truck and hauling materials to a disposal site or recycling plant safely and in compliance with requirements.
Routinely enter and exit the truck approximately 300–600 times per day, depending on the route.
Pull or push containers from enclosures or inside buildings as needed.
Return receptacles neatly to the curb or designated area.
Clean up waste spills and overflows.
Maintain and update route and driver log sheets.
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and complete logs.
Interact professionally with internal and external customers and provide excellent customer service.
Clean waste from the packer blade and truck body and keep the truck cab clean.
Deliver trash or recycling containers as needed.
Manually load bulk items as needed.
Maintain cleanliness of the assigned truck.
Operate other types of trucks as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
