This position supports highway and bridge maintenance operations through skilled equipment use and a wide range of hands-on labor tasks. As a PennDOT CDL Operator, you will perform the following duties: Equipment Operation: Operate trucks, loaders, and other machinery while completing required checks and maintaining CDL standards. Traffic Control: Perform flagging duties to support safe and efficient work zones. Manual Labor: Carry out tasks such as digging, cutting brush, erecting signs, and repairing barriers using hand and motorized tools. Equipment Care: Make field adjustments, complete minor repairs, and assist mechanics while maintaining accurate equipment records. Safety Practices: Follow proper procedures, stay alert to hazards, and report incidents to maintain a safe work environment. Environmental Compliance: Implement required environmental protections during maintenance activities.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Graduation from a Commercial Driver’s License Training School; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the Air Brake (L) and Manual Transmission (E ) Restrictions removed.
  • Demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission.
  • Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations.
  • Possession of an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.
  • Possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions.
