About The Position

Join the Adams County Maintenance team as a PennDOT CDL Operator with the Department of Transportation and help keep our roadways safe and reliable. This role offers you the chance to work outdoors, operate essential equipment, and support the traveling public every day. Your efforts will make a direct difference in maintaining the infrastructure that keeps communities connected. This position focuses on operating roadway equipment and performing manual tasks that support safe and efficient highway and bridge maintenance. Your work also involves promoting safety, caring for equipment, and assisting with winter operations and repairs.

Requirements

  • Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
  • Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Graduation from a Commercial Driver’s License Training School; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Nice To Haves

  • All employees must obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job.
  • All permanent employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.

Responsibilities

  • Operate trucks, snow plows, loaders, and related machinery for roadway and bridge maintenance
  • Complete tasks such as clearing debris, cutting brush, repairing structures, and using hand tools
  • Perform flagging duties to guide traffic safely during maintenance activities
  • Make field adjustments, complete minor repairs, and maintain equipment cleanliness and readiness
  • Follow safety procedures, use protective gear, and monitor work areas to reduce hazards
  • Carry out environmental protection steps required during maintenance work
