DESCRIPTION OF WORK This trainee role builds the skills needed to safely operate highway construction and maintenance equipment while performing a variety of physical tasks that support roadway upkeep. The work helps ensure safe travel for the public and prepares you for advancement in transportation operations.

Requirements

  • Must be in possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
  • All employees must possess an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit on the first day of work.
  • All positions require employees to possess an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations by the first day of work.
  • Ability to demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission within the probationary period.
  • Subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to operate heavy trucks, loaders, and related construction equipment
  • Handle motorized and non-motorized tools such as shovels, mowers, trimmers, and saws
  • Follow safety procedures, use protective gear, and report hazards promptly
  • Complete pre and post operation inspections and make field adjustments
  • Stay alert to surroundings and help prevent risks and accidents
  • Apply environmental protection requirements during maintenance activities
