About The Position

US 1 Shorthaul is seeking a Local CDL Yard Jockey / Shuttle Driver. This part-time, non-exempt (hourly) position is responsible for efficiently and accurately selecting and staging trailers for loading and transport. The role involves moving trailers in and out of docks using yard goats, maneuvering trucks and trailers safely in busy industrial environments, and regularly checking equipment for faults or damages. The driver will ensure equipment complies with all guidelines, including weight restrictions, and perform proper pre and post-trip inspections, submitting reports on truck conditions. Responsibilities also include producing activity logs, adhering to safety-sensitive function guidelines within the yard, identifying workplace safety hazards, and other duties assigned by management. This position does not involve Over-The-Road (OTR) travel, freight handling, or drop and hook only.

Requirements

  • Minimum 18 months, verifiable over-the-road experience in the past 5 years, of which 12 months must be within the past 3 years that is similar experience and subjected to the FMCSA's drug testing rules of 49 CFR Part 40
  • Experience backing 48' to 53' trailers (including in tight spaces and to dock doors)
  • Clearinghouse query consent
  • PSP below 90
  • No preventable DOT accidents within the past 3 years
  • No application falsifications, application must include 10-year, verifiable employment history with no gaps in employment
  • This position must pass pre-hire background and drug test
  • DOT compliance obligations (medical card, drug/alcohol testing, etc.)
  • No drug related charges, past failed drug screens, past refused drug screens, and no SAP programs
  • No felony convictions within the past 7 years
  • Requirement to operate a CMV on public roads
  • CDL requirement
  • Mandatory acceptance of shuttle assignments
  • Understanding and communicating in the English language is a requirement

  • May substitute local for over-the-road experience

Responsibilities

  • Correctly move trailers in and out of dock with yard goats

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management
  • Perform occasional shuttle routes
  • Request and complete trailer moves in the Yard Management System (Catalyst System)
