About The Position

160 Driving Academy is hiring an experienced Class A driver to teach students the skills they need to pass their CDL exams. The instructor provides hands-on instruction in an outdoor yard and on the road, guiding students through pre-trip inspections, yard maneuvers, and driving on automatic and manual transmissions. The role is based at a designated yard and works alongside other instructors and a Lead Instructor, with occasional coverage at nearby regional yards. Instructors track student attendance and progress, provide additional support, and maintain accurate training records, evaluations, and documentation. They follow the academy’s curriculum, work collaboratively to deliver a consistent student experience, report incidents and accidents promptly, and help keep the yard and building clean and presentable. Duties also include transferring trucks to repair operations or neighboring yards and assisting with yard upkeep. A 90-day probationary period applies. The position is local and hands-on, with a schedule generally Monday through Friday, either 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. or 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Some higher-volume yards operate seven days a week for ten hours per day and may offer alternative shifts, including some four-day workweeks. Regional coverage may occasionally require an overnight hotel stay; per diem and mileage are paid in those circumstances as applicable. Compensation is $28–$30 per hour, with performance bonus opportunities and possible annual merit increases.
