About The Position

The CDL Examiner is responsible for administering Commercial Driver's License (CDL) exams as prescribed by applicable state and Federal regulations, policies, and procedures, as well as those established by the Company. Examiners are considered quasi-state employees during the administration of these exams. This role requires maintaining the integrity and security of all testing materials and procedures, ensuring the safe operation of testing equipment, and upholding high ethical standards. The position also involves attending refresher courses, staying current with testing updates, and submitting all required documentation accurately and on time. Examiners must maintain a professional demeanor and treat all individuals with dignity and respect.

Requirements

  • A valid CDL Class A Commercial Driver’s License with all endorsements as required by the Company.
  • A clean driving record with no moving violations within the last 3 years.
  • A minimum of 3 years over the road or local driving experience or other criteria acceptable to the Company.
  • Ability to pass and continuously maintain a U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) physical.
  • Ability to pass an approved DOT drug screen and hair follicle test (HFT).
  • Agreement to post-accident, random, and suspicion-based drug testing.
  • Currently possess or have the ability to obtain all required local, state, and Federal approvals to be certified as a CDL Examiner.
  • Hold a high school diploma, GED, or higher.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate using verbal/non-verbal and written skills.
  • Demonstrate physical, intellectual, and leadership ability to perform the duties outlined within this job description.

Responsibilities

  • Administering CDL exams as prescribed by applicable state and Federal regulations, policies, and procedures, as well as policies and procedures established by the Company.
  • Ensuring the safe driving and operation of testing equipment during exams and taking over controls if necessary to avoid an accident.
  • Maintaining the reliability and integrity of CDL exams, including Pre-trip inspection, Basic Skills, and Over the Road Skills.
  • Ensuring the security and integrity of all testing materials and testing manuals.
  • Immediately reporting any testing discrepancies or inaccuracies to the employee’s immediate supervisor.
  • Attending all CDL refresher classes and staying conversant with all updates in testing procedures.
  • Maintaining public and personal credibility as a third-party state examiner.
  • Being professional and rational at all times and maintaining a high ethical standard.
  • Treating all Company associates, students, test subjects, and third parties with dignity, respect, and professionalism.
  • Adhering to all policies and procedures established by the state monitor and the third-party exam facility.
  • Completing, correctly and timely, submission of all test evaluations, forms, and required reports associated with CDL third party testing.
  • Wearing appropriate uniform and being neat and clean while on duty.
  • Ensuring testing equipment is always properly maintained.
  • Assisting with the training department when available in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Not administering a CDL exam to an individual to whom training was provided.
  • Ensuring regular, reliable, and predictable work attendance, which is an essential function of this position.
  • Performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Company Management.
