About The Position

Bay West is seeking a CDL Driver / Equipment Operator to join our team! In this role, you'll operate specialized equipment, conduct hazardous waste cleanup, and provide top-tier service to our clients. You'll have opportunities for career growth and the chance to work in dynamic environments across various job sites. This position will support daily operations at an active refinery, including routine maintenance work, planned outages, and turnaround projects. You will be responsible for safely operating commercial vehicles and specialized industrial equipment such as liquid vacuum trucks, guzzlers, hydro excavators, liquid ring units, combo trucks, and other refinery support equipment. This is a hands-on position and is not limited to driving responsibilities. Team members are expected to actively participate in field operations, including equipment setup and breakdown, tank cleaning, hydroexcavation, vacuum services, maintenance support, and other industrial services work as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED or 5-7 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B required
  • Tanker Endorsement required
  • Hazmat Endorsement required
  • Active 40-hour HAZWOPER Certificate helpful but will be provided to the right candidate
  • TWIC card or ability to obtain one
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and email communication
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Ability to work days, nights, weekends, overtime, and extended schedules during refinery outages and turnarounds
  • Possess or have access to reliable means of transportation on a 24-hour basis
  • Willingness and ability to participate in work beyond driving responsibilities
  • Ability to pass refinery-specific background checks and site access requirements
  • Strong safety record and commitment to safe work practices
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation

Nice To Haves

  • Previous refinery, petrochemical, industrial plant, or similar heavy industrial experience
  • Experience operating liquid vacuum trucks, guzzlers, hydro excavators, combo trucks, and related equipment
  • Turnaround and outage project experience
  • Tank cleaning experience
  • Experience using vacuum trucks with hazardous materials
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) experience
  • Experience operating yellow iron equipment
  • Experience operating construction equipment such as excavators, loaders, and skid steers
  • Ability to operate manual transmission CDL vehicles
  • Ability to support additional Industrial Services projects as needed

Responsibilities

  • Travel to job sites and operate vacuum trucks, roll-off trucks, and other company equipment and vehicles
  • Safely operate specialized industrial equipment including liquid vacuum trucks, guzzlers, hydro excavators, liquid ring units, and combo trucks
  • Accurately perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report deficiencies daily
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance, fluid checks, housekeeping, and report maintenance needs
  • Label and manifest shipments in accordance with DOT regulations and company policies
  • Interact with customers and provide superior customer service during all activities
  • Maintain all required certifications required by DOT, OSHA, and company safety programs
  • Maintain and protect all equipment in excellent condition
  • Participate in pre-job safety meetings, JSAs, and comply with all site-specific safety requirements
  • Assist field crews with project setup, execution, and equipment breakdown
  • Conduct hazardous waste operations and clean-up activities
  • Develop summaries, generate photographic logs, and input fieldwork documentation
  • Communicate effectively with leadership, team members, customers, and other contractors
  • Maintain daily logs, paperwork, and operational documentation
  • Perform any other tasks assigned to support and improve overall team operations
  • Operate and troubleshoot routinely used tools and equipment
  • Actively participate on the Emergency Response (ER) team, including one week of being on-call 24/7 every six to eight weeks
