About The Position

C.J. Hughes Construction Co., Inc. is seeking a CDL-A or CDL-B Truck Driver to support its Water and Sewer Construction crews. Assigned to a field crew, the driver helps install, repair, and replace underground water and sewer lines. The role is approximately 50% driving and 50% laboring, and requires safely operating company vehicles and equipment while performing manual labor alongside the crew. The driver operates CDL-required vehicles, including dump trucks, trailers, and equipment haulers exceeding 26,000 pounds; transports equipment, pipe, materials, and debris; and loads, unloads, and secures materials. The position also includes daily vehicle and equipment inspections, required documentation, driver logs when necessary, and general water and sewer construction labor. Work takes place at outdoor construction sites in varying weather and may involve travel, overtime, weekend work, extended hours, or overnight stays depending on project needs. The role requires a valid CDL-A or CDL-B license, at least one year of CDL driving experience and one year holding a CDL, and the ability to obtain and maintain a DOT Medical Card. Applicants must be at least 18, have reliable transportation, provide documentation of identity and employment eligibility, and be able to pass a drug test and background check. A high school diploma or GED is preferred.

Requirements

Valid CDL-A or CDL-B driver's license that meets Company Fleet Policy requirements.
Minimum of one year of CDL driving experience.
Minimum of one year holding a CDL.
Ability to obtain and maintain a valid DOT Medical Card.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Must provide documentation verifying identity and employment eligibility in accordance with federal I-9 requirements.
Ability to pass a drug test and background check.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physical labor.
Ability to work overtime and extended hours based on workload.
Willingness to travel and work in different areas as needed.
Commitment to following safety policies and procedures.
Knowledge of underground utility markings and locator systems.
Ability to safely operate vehicles around workers, equipment, and underground utilities.
Ability to properly secure loads and operate hauling equipment.

Responsibilities

Operate CDL-required vehicles, including dump trucks, trailers, and equipment haulers exceeding 26,000 pounds.
Haul equipment, pipe, materials, and debris to and from job sites.
Load, unload, and secure materials using chains, ratchet straps, and tarps.
Perform daily pre-shift inspections of vehicles and equipment and complete required documentation.
Maintain driver logs when required.
Perform general labor duties on water and sewer construction crews.
Assist with hand digging, shoveling, and site preparation.
Lift and carry materials up to 75 pounds on a regular basis.
Work safely in outdoor and extreme weather conditions.
Follow company safety policies and procedures and maintain awareness in the “red zone.”
Perform duties assigned by a supervisor to support crew production and efficiency.
Perform other duties as assigned by a supervisor or management.
