CDL Driver
About The Position
Alaska Waste, a Waste Connections company, is hiring a safety-conscious local CDL Driver in Fairbanks, Alaska. The driver operates a garbage truck on assigned routes to collect solid waste, follows route sheets and dispatcher instructions, inspects and maintains the vehicle, and interacts courteously with customers. The work can be physically demanding and may require loading and unloading without helpers. The schedule is five days per week, including weekends, from 7 a.m. to 3 or 4 p.m. Starting pay is $28.00 to $32.00 per hour, depending on experience. The position involves strenuous physical work and exposure to outdoor weather, moving mechanical parts, fumes, vibration, and usually moderate noise.
Requirements
- Valid Class A or Class B CDL with air brakes endorsement, at minimum.
- Clean driving record.
- Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate in English.
- At least one year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate a garbage truck on specified routes to collect solid waste.
- Read route sheets and service each customer identified on the sheet or assigned by the dispatcher.
- Perform routine vehicle inspections and maintenance, including checking fluids, safety equipment, and tires.
- Perform physically demanding loading and unloading, sometimes without helpers.
- Interact courteously with customers.
- Perform other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
