About The Position

The Transit CDL–Limited Term Driver plays a key role in keeping Dunn County moving. In this customer-focused role, you’ll safely transport passengers along established local routes, creating a welcoming, reliable, and inclusive experience for every rider. You’ll confidently operate county transit vehicles, follow all traffic and safety regulations, and perform routine inspections to keep our buses running smoothly. This position is ideal for someone who values community service, enjoys working with the public, and takes pride in providing safe, dependable transportation across Dunn County. Expected duration of this limited term position is through December 18, 2026.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • CDL Class B License with Passenger endorsement required
  • Fed Med Card required
  • Pre-Employment Drug Testing Requirements
  • Ability to stay focused for long periods of time
  • Knowledge of safe driving practices, per state and federal guidelines
  • Knowledge of computer operation and use including but not limited to Ecolane MDT Route Dispatching Software and Google Forms
  • Ability to apply and follow department and/or county transit operations, procedures and methods
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships
  • Ability to follow Dunn County policies and procedures including those pertaining to confidentiality
  • Ability to prioritize and organize job assignments
  • Ability to manage time effectively, manage multiple projects, and complete work within established deadlines
  • Ability to work the allocated hours of the position
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with other staff members, supervisors, and the general public in written and verbal form
  • English skills (oral, written and comprehension) sufficient to effectively communicate with all internal and external customers
  • Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions
  • Must have ability to work accurately with attention to detail
  • Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages

Responsibilities

  • Drives assigned on-demand and fixed bus routes
  • Provides safe and time-critical operation of shuttle and bus services
  • Ensures vehicles are clean and ready, performing cleaning including picking up garbage, sweeping, mopping, and washing the bus as necessary
  • Performs a thorough pre and post trip inspection to ensure bus mechanical integrity and safety readiness
  • Collaborate with dispatcher to account for all cash receipts
  • Fuel and wash buses per the individual route schedules
  • Greet riders to establish rapport and a positive riding experience
  • Assist riders in getting on and off the vehicle, using wheelchair lift and securement as needed
  • Resolve rider complaints in a positive manner
  • Report problems and challenges to supervisor as needed
  • Properly utilize equipment: Rear lifts, wheelchair lifts, powered service doors, bus kneeling systems, digital surveillance camera system, tire pressure gauges, two way radios, wheelchair restraint systems
  • Attend regular safety meetings and training sessions to stay updated on industry regulations, driving techniques, and emergency procedures
  • Provide assistance in the event of emergencies, such as accidents, breakdowns, or medical incidents, by following established protocols and contacting appropriate personnel
  • Adhere to predetermined schedules and timetables, making adjustments as necessary due to traffic conditions, weather, or other unforeseen circumstances
  • Comply with all traffic laws, regulations, and company policies to ensure passenger safety and minimize accidents or incidents
  • Performs other duties of a comparable level/type, as assigned
