CDL Driver (Trainee) - Transit
About The Position
The Fayetteville Area System of Transit (FAST) is seeking CDL Driver Trainees to join their team. NO PRIOR COMMERCIAL DRIVING EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. FAST has partnered with Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) to offer a training program for individuals who do not possess a commercial driver’s license. Trainees will be employed by the City during the training period and must complete and pass the class to continue employment. The training program at FTCC is a 5-week/200-hour program. The City (FAST) will cover the Trainee’s FTCC course tuition/fees and DOT Long Form Physical & Drug Screen. Trainees are required to sign an agreement for a 24-month employment commitment with the City (FAST). As a FAST Transit Operator, you must be attentive, have good judgment, be professional, have safe driving habits and most importantly have the ability to provide great customer service. Responsibilities include the safe operation of the bus and passenger well-being, responding to customer inquiries, providing comfortable rides, and collecting fares. The Transit department provides bus services 7 days a week, and applicants must be available to work during specified hours of operation.
Requirements
- A current DOT Medical Card
- North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver’s License with an endorsement for air brakes and a passenger endorsement within 60 days of FTCC Training completion
- Ability to maintain insurability
- Must be available to work during the following hours of operation: Monday – Saturday between the hours of 4:55 AM and 10:30 PM, Sunday between the hours of 8:30 AM and 7:30 PM
- Must complete and pass the FTCC training program
- Must sign an agreement for a 24-month employment commitment with the City (FAST)

- Schedule Adherence – providing reliable and consistent bus route service according to publicly advertised schedules
