About The Position

Alaska Waste, a Waste Connections company, is actively seeking a CDL Driver Trainee or an Entry Level CDL Driver in Anchorage, AK. This unique opportunity is designed for individuals who aspire to a CDL career but may lack the necessary certification or training. The company offers a program where candidates are paid an hourly wage of $19.00 during their training phase to earn their Class B CDL with an air brakes endorsement, completely free of charge. The training curriculum includes a weeklong classroom course, comprehensive behind-the-wheel training, and a road test. The entire process can be completed in as little as 3 weeks, though most individuals typically achieve it within a few months. Upon successful completion of the training and obtaining the CDL, the trainee will transition into a full-time Local Driver role, with an increased hourly wage of $25.00. For applicants who already possess a valid CDL, the company provides specialized training on the safe operation of a garbage truck, enabling them to independently manage a route after training. This role emphasizes job security in an essential service, local routes ensuring drivers are home every night, and opportunities for career advancement within a team-first, safety-focused environment.

Requirements

  • A valid Class D license and ability to obtain a CDL permit within 90 days of start date, or, a valid Class B or Class A CDL with Air Brake endorsement
  • A clean driving record
  • Physically able to lift 50+ lbs and work in all weather conditions
  • Strong communication + basic reading/writing skills (English required)
  • 1+ year of general work experience

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Related experience (for general work experience)

Responsibilities

  • Operate a garbage truck safely on local routes
  • Collect solid waste and recyclables from residential and commercial customers
  • Follow route sheets and work independently
  • Perform daily vehicle inspections and basic maintenance
  • Provide friendly, professional service to customers
