About The Position

Zeeland Lumber & Supply, based in Michigan, operates truss and wall panel component manufacturing plants and full-service building material yards. They distribute lumber and a wide range of specialty products including windows, doors, roofing, cabinets, decking, and interior and exterior trim. The CDL Driver I is responsible for delivering materials to job sites, inspecting and maintaining their truck, reporting any shortages or claims to their supervisor, and assisting with loading and storing materials. This role typically involves driving a truck with a capacity of over three tons and may be suitable for a less experienced CDL or tractor-trailer driver. Pay is based on experience.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Basic CDL experience with flat beds and/or tractor trailers required.
  • 1-3 years CDL experience required for interstate commerce.
  • Ability to do basic math, read orders, write instructions and complete forms.
  • Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with customers, other employees and supervisors using verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to deal constructively with conflict and recognize potential problems.
  • Maintain current operator’s license and meet company driver qualification requirements.
  • Knowledge and ability to use safe lifting techniques.
  • Proficiency with or ability to learn current technologies (e.g. Smartphone, GPS and other necessary business applications).
  • Class A CDL License required.
  • Class B CDL License required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate safely.
  • Participate in a positive work environment.
  • Maintain a current Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License as required.
  • Prepare DOT required log of time on duty and driving.
  • Organize and secure load.
  • Assist forklift operators when loading.
  • Check orders for accuracy.
  • Deliver and unload materials to customers’ satisfaction.
  • Complete daily equipment pre-inspection.
  • Record all merchandise that is returned by truck, assist in unloading material returned for credit.
  • Follow guidelines established by the Department of Transportation.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Relay messages sent by customers while on job.
  • Assist supervisor, other employees and other work areas, as assigned.
  • Assist in maintaining good housekeeping in yard and warehouse.
  • Comply with all company policies and guidelines.
  • Operate truck mounted forklift safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain cleanliness of truck.
  • Participate in and complete assigned trainings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all policies and standards.
