About The Position

The CDL Driver - Class B (Roll Off) safely and efficiently delivers and picks up Metalico containers at customer sites, performing all duties in accordance with company policies and procedures. The position is full-time and non-exempt, based at 6225 Thompson Rd., Syracuse, NY 13206, and is performed in person. Regular hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with Saturday overtime as needed from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The driver must follow DOT regulations and company safety rules, conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections, complete and submit required paperwork, secure loads using tarps and tie-downs when required, monitor truck condition and maintenance schedules, and keep the truck clean. Drivers must know which materials may and may not be hauled, including restrictions on hazardous materials, and may be asked to switch between truck types based on business needs. Mobile phone use involving dialing, holding a phone to the ear, or texting while driving is prohibited. Drivers participate in scheduled safety meetings and promptly report accidents, injuries, or other incidents to the transportation manager. The driver picks up and delivers containers on time, provides customer paperwork, obtains signatures on dispatch tickets, and represents Metalico professionally and courteously. The driver communicates customer needs and concerns to the transportation manager and maintains positive working relationships with yard staff. The role requires the ability to enter and exit a truck cab using foot and hand holds and to perform physical movements including pushing, pulling, stooping, bending, twisting, balancing, climbing, crouching, and kneeling.

Requirements

Class B driver's license required.
Must be registered in the Federal DOT Clearinghouse.
Must be able to enter and exit the truck cab using foot and hand holds.
Must be able, as needed, to exert force for pushing and pulling and to stoop, bend, twist, balance, climb, crouch, and kneel.
Physical limitations must be reported immediately to the Supervisor.
A job offer is contingent on a pre-hire physical, including drug screening, criminal background screening, and an MVR report.

Nice To Haves

Class A license is a plus.
Two or more years of driving experience preferred.
A clean driving record is a plus.

Responsibilities

Safely drive in accordance with DOT regulations, speed limits, and company safety rules.
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections on every truck driven each day.
Complete required paperwork accurately and submit it at the end of each workday.
Distribute materials appropriately and secure loads with tarps and tie-downs as required.
Maneuver trucks safely at customer sites.
Monitor truck mechanical functions and ensure maintenance follows applicable maintenance and DOT schedules.
Know which materials are permitted and prohibited for hauling, including hazardous materials.
Wear appropriate PPE, follow safety rules, identify opportunities to improve safety, and attend mandatory scheduled safety meetings.
Immediately report accidents, injuries, property damage, spills, or other incidents to the transportation manager; take photos if possible and wait for Metalico personnel or police to respond.
Keep the truck clean inside and out.
Switch between truck types as business needs require.
Pick up and deliver containers at customer sites in a timely and efficient manner.
Provide customers with appropriate paperwork and obtain signatures on dispatch tickets.
Represent Metalico professionally and courteously and communicate customer needs or concerns to the transportation manager.
Maintain positive relationships with yard staff and understand departmental requirements and their impact on other functions.
