About The Position

This role is for a CDL Delivery Driver who is friendly, customer-service oriented, detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and enjoys working independently. The driver will operate trucks safely and in compliance with company rules, laws, and regulations, delivering merchandise to various destinations including job sites, customer facilities, vendor facilities, other Hajoca locations, and other wholesalers. Responsibilities include loading and securing merchandise, understanding shipping documents, ensuring order accuracy, unloading correct merchandise, obtaining signatures, collecting payments for cash sales, resolving shipping discrepancies with customers, loading merchandise from other locations, providing sales leads, inspecting the truck daily, keeping the truck clean, reporting mechanical issues, completing inspection reports, removing keys at the end of the day, and completing assigned safety and compliance training.

Requirements

• Be able to drive a vehicle over 26,001 lbs.
• Be at least 21 years old
• Possess a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) for the vehicle(s) being driven, with hazmat endorsement if operating a vehicle that requires placarding for hazardous materials.
• Have a driving record that meets the criteria for being an Authorized Driver in accordance with Company policy.
• Be able to pass a Department of Transportation physical examination before beginning work and again at least every two years while employed and performing this job function.
• Have CDL with HAZMAT and Moffett experience.
• Know the laws, rules and regulations governing driving motor vehicles in general, and commercial motor vehicles subject to Department of Transportation regulations in particular.
• Be able to safely operate any delivery vehicle, including commercial motor vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 lbs. or more.
• Know of, be able to apply, and practice safety precautions in a warehouse and material handling environment.
• Be able to build and maintain a positive working relationship with customers, vendors and co-workers.
• Be able to remain calm and function effectively in stressful, unexpected, and/or emergency situations.
• Be able to learn to operate warehouse material-handling equipment.
• Be able to learn and operate the computer related systems used in the delivery process.
• Read, write, speak and understand English.
• Be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks safely and in compliance with Company rules, applicable laws, and regulations.
• Load the truck at the Profit Center with Hajoca merchandise to be delivered.
• Secure the load properly so that nothing will shift, get damaged, or fall from the truck.
• Ensure that the necessary equipment to safely unload the merchandise is available.
• Affix the appropriate DOT hazmat truck placards if hauling hazardous materials in excess of 1,000 lbs.
• Understand the shipping documents that are associated with the merchandise for each delivery and have accurate directions to each delivery destination.
• Review shipping documentation and ensure order accuracy.
• Unload correct merchandise from the truck and place it where the receiving party wants it.
• Obtain legible signature for all merchandise delivered per Company policy and procedure.
• Collect and secure outstanding payments for all cash sale deliveries prior to releasing the material to the customer.
• Work with customers at the delivery site to resolve shipping discrepancies quickly and accurately.
• Load the truck at other locations with merchandise, including merchandise picked up at vendor locations, returned by customers, and purchased from other wholesalers.
• Provide sales leads by noting prospective customer names and addresses discovered in the course of making deliveries.
• Inspect the truck and required parts and accessories to determine safe operating condition prior to departure from the Hajoca location.
• Keep truck clean of debris in cab and body.
• Advise management of any mechanical problems with the truck.
• At the end of the workday, complete the Driver’s Daily Vehicle Inspection Report when driving a delivery vehicle with a gross vehicle weight (GVWR) of 10,001 lbs. or more if a defect or deficiency is found.
• At the end of the workday, remove keys from the truck and store keys in the approved location.
• Successfully complete required safety and compliance training programs as assigned.
• Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management as required.
