About The Position

Conklin Metal Industries is a fourth-generation, family-owned distributor of sheet metal, HVAC, and duct fabrication supplies. Founded in 1874, we proudly serve the entire Southeast through our network of warehouses. Our customers include sheet metal contractors, mechanical contractors, duct fabricators, residential and multi-family new construction contractors, and HVAC service specialists. We are a one-stop shop for every component used in HVAC duct systems — from sheet metal and fasteners to insulation, machinery, and accessories. With our brand-new Charleston branch that opened in November 2025, we are seeking safe, dependable drivers to join our growing team. We are hiring a CDL Class B Driver who will be responsible for the safe and efficient transport of freight to and from our Charleston branch. This role involves local routes, ensuring drivers are home every night, while still offering opportunities for overtime. The ideal candidate has flatbed driving experience, a strong safety record, and is committed to professional, customer-focused service.

Requirements

  • Valid CDL Class A or B license
  • Clean MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) required
  • Must be able to pass a DOT drug screen and background check
  • Not currently enrolled in or subject to a SAP (Substance Abuse Program)
  • Safe driving record and ability to meet DOT requirements
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull freight of varying weights (up to 122 lbs occasionally)
  • Comfortable with manual labor including squatting, crouching, climbing, and frequent vehicle entry/exit
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong focus on safety, professionalism, and customer service

Nice To Haves

  • Flatbed driving experience strongly preferred
  • Prior experience in freight delivery, industrial distribution, or HVAC preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily pre-trip inspections to ensure safe operating conditions
  • Review shipping papers, confirm freight details, and secure loads properly
  • Operate vehicles in compliance with DOT and state regulations, as well as company policies
  • Pick up and deliver freight safely and on time
  • Load, unload, and move freight manually or with mechanical lifting equipment
  • Secure freight with tarps, chains, webbing, or straps as required
  • Collect freight charges (C.O.D.’s) and return them to the branch as instructed
  • Match, count, and verify freight against bills of lading and manifests
  • Maintain accurate driver logs and required documentation
  • Report all accidents, injuries, or equipment issues immediately to the Branch Manager
  • Safely operate equipment such as pallet jacks, forklifts, lift gates, and dollies
