About The Position

Kinsley Steel, Inc. is seeking a CDL Class A Truck Driver for their Richmond, VA location. The role involves the safe and professional operation of various trucks and trailers to haul steel and equipment. Responsibilities include securing loads, physically loading and unloading materials, coordinating with shipping and receiving, planning routes, maintaining logs and documents, performing inspections, and assisting with non-driving tasks when needed. Requirements

  • Possess a valid Class A CDL with a clean driving record and a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Demonstrated expertise in DOT safety procedures, load securement practices, and regulatory compliance to ensure safe and lawful transportation operations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make sound safety judgements.
  • Ability to work overtime and on Saturdays as required.
  • Ability to stay out of town on occasion.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 5 years of commercial truck driving experience.
  • Experience delivering to construction jobsites.
  • Experience hauling stretch and wide loads.
  • Knowledge of securing structural steel, stairs, and rails.

Responsibilities

  • Safe and professional operation of a Tractor Trailer with a Flatbed Trailer (45', 48', 53', or Stretch), straight truck, or other vehicles to haul steel and equipment.
  • Properly secure loads using chains, binders, and straps to ensure stability during transport.
  • Physically load and unload materials from trucks, trailers, shop floors, and ground using manual lifting, forklifts, or overhead cranes.
  • Coordinate with shipping and receiving for daily deliveries and pickups.
  • Plan routes and delivery schedules to meet deadlines while following all DOT regulations and company safety policies.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date Driver's Log, Safety Reports, and other required documents per state and federal regulations.
  • Ensure all freight documents are signed and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report any mechanical issues, defects, accidents, or violations to the appropriate personnel.
  • Perform minor preventive maintenance and ensuring proper maintenance of vehicles; including refueling, cleaning, and minor repairs.
  • Maintain professional communication with dispatchers, customers, and team members.
  • Assist the team in other non-driving-related tasks when deliveries are not needed.
