CDL Class A Instructor

Bellavance Trucking Inc•Barre, VT
•$0 - $28

About The Position

We seek a knowledgeable, safety-focused, motivated CDL Class A Instructor who understands that the mission goes beyond helping students obtain a Commercial Driver’s License. The goal is to develop safe, skilled, professional drivers who understand the responsibilities of operating a commercial motor vehicle and are prepared for success in the trucking industry. The ideal candidate is a coach first and an instructor second: patient, approachable, and willing to work with students who have different learning styles, experience levels, and challenges while maintaining consistent standards. Instructors teach classroom, yard, and behind-the-wheel content; coach and mentor students; uphold safety standards; and evaluate student competency. The listed schedule is Monday through Friday, either 7:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Students must complete night-driving hours. Starting pay is $28.00 per hour.

Requirements

  • Valid CDL Class A instructor license and a driving record that meets company and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience operating commercial motor vehicles safely and professionally.
  • Strong working knowledge of CDL Class A training requirements, vehicle inspections, safe driving practices, and applicable DOT/FMCSA regulations.
  • Ability to effectively teach and demonstrate commercial vehicle operation, pre-trip and post-trip inspections, trip planning, and defensive driving.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback, manage student performance, and maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Patience, sound judgment, professionalism, and a genuine desire to help others succeed.
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation and objectively evaluate student competency.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver classroom, yard, and behind-the-wheel instruction in accordance with the established CDL Class A curriculum and DOT and FMCSA requirements.
  • Understand the curriculum thoroughly and teach its content accurately, consistently, and effectively.
  • Teach students the knowledge and practical skills needed to operate a commercial motor vehicle safely and professionally.
  • Teach pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections, including identifying defects and determining when a vehicle is unsafe to operate.
  • Teach trip planning, route selection, hours-of-service requirements and recordkeeping, vehicle safety, and other applicable DOT and FMCSA requirements.
  • Develop students’ vehicle-control, backing, shifting, road-awareness, hazard-recognition, and defensive-driving skills.
  • Adapt teaching methods to individual student needs without compromising safety or training standards.
  • Lead by example, treat students respectfully, provide constructive feedback, and hold students accountable for performance, professionalism, and progress.
  • Maintain high safety standards and balance patience and encouragement with clear expectations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and objectively evaluate student competency.
