About The Position

Baldwin Paving Company, Inc. is currently seeking drivers with a CDL Class A license to join our team, driving our Flatbed and other vehicles. This will be a full-time role. This position reports to the Grading & Pipe Site Foreman. If you are a self-motivated individual with a desire to grow in your career, please read the responsibilities and qualifications for the position below. Performs a variety of duties relating to equipment and other materiel distribution activities and requires a CDL-A license.

Requirements

  • CDL Class A license
  • 2 years of CDL driving experience.
  • Willingness and ability to perform the work and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Valid, unrestricted Class A License is required.
  • Clean record in the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
  • Must not be in the return-to-duty process.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
  • Ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Safety Manual.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA and company policy.
  • Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position: Coveralls, Fall Protection, Gloves, Welding Gloves, Hard Hat, Hearing Protection, Padlocks for Lockout/Tagout, Respiratory Protection, Safety Glasses, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, Welding Aprons, Welding Helmet, Welding Shield.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, routes, and moves equipment and construction material.
  • May identify, inspect, and segregate equipment or material as it is received for obvious damage and needed repairs.
  • Determines appropriate handling methods and devices needed to move items.
  • Prepares and processes all necessary paperwork and dispatches.
  • Ensures accountability, completes logbooks, maintenance records, reports, and other transportation documents for accurate accounting.
  • Determines proper identification, marking, labeling, and inclusion of shipping documents and special handling instructions on all shipments.
  • Assists the Foreman as required in actions such as determining freight shipping requirements consistent with efficiency and transportation priorities.
  • Analyzes and interprets technical transportation requirements.
  • Maneuvers vehicles within close tolerances when driving and backing over uneven ground, in narrow or congested areas, between buildings, and other vehicles when positioning vehicles at loading docks.
  • Operates vehicles on interstate highways, winding roads, and steep grades and manipulates the dual braking system to prevent the truck from jackknifing.
  • Ensures cargo is properly loaded, distributed, and secured.
  • Transports items that are bulky and unwieldy utilizing appropriate load balance and adequate protection for items.
  • Occasionally drives over rough surfaces.
  • Picks up items from job sites, local vendors, and suppliers.
  • Checks routine maintenance items on assigned vehicles such as oil, tire pressure, windshield washer fluids, power steering fluids, and gas as per required preventive maintenance guidance.
  • Keeps assigned vehicle in good appearance and assures it is in top-notch condition for periodic vehicle inspections.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
