About The Position

The Athletic Team Driver will be responsible for safely transporting the assigned athletic team to and from athletic events via the assigned team vehicle. The primary modes of transportation are the institutional 25 and 35 passenger buses, or occasionally a 15 passenger van. A class "B" CDL driver's license with a passenger endorsement is required to operate the buses. Previous bus driving experience is strongly preferred. This is a Part-Time position for 10 months, from August to May.

Requirements

• Class "B" CDL with Passenger Endorsement is Required
• Valid driver license
• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Medical Certificate (in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations)
• Must have a safe driving record with a good knowledge of Iowa Driver's Manual and DOT's A Motor Carrier's Guide to Improving Highway Safety
• Ability to communicate effectively and exercise good human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with the university community
• Compliance with all applicable DOT regulations, including submission to drug and alcohol testing
• A background check will be required of the successful applicant
• Must be willing and available for evening and weekend work

Nice To Haves

• Previous bus driving experience is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Safely drive the team vehicle in a timely manner to and from the assigned event.
• Ability to assess and correct minor maintenance issues that may arise on a trip (wiper blades, jump start a battery, change a flat tire, etc.).
• Ability to read and follow navigation equipment.
• Ability to safely drive in inclement weather as necessary (snow, rain, etc.).
• Ability to safely drive earlier in the morning or later at night as necessary.
• Attendance as scheduled.
• Punctuality
• Obey traffic laws.
• Ensure the safety of all passengers.
• Assist passengers with getting on and off the bus as needed.
• Perform inspections of the bus before and after each trip.
• Attend vehicle orientation / safety meetings as required.
• Record and report mileage after each trip.
