About The Position

Interstate Waste Services is seeking experienced CDL B Side Load Truck Drivers. Safety is our top priority. We are a progressive and innovative provider of solid waste and recycling services, primarily servicing Northern New Jersey, Southern New York State, and New York City, with expanded operations into Pennsylvania and Ohio. We offer a high-quality work environment that balances corporate standards with a small business family culture. Drivers are responsible for safely operating front, side, or rear-loading trucks for the pick-up of waste or recyclable materials, transporting them to disposal, transfer, or recycling facilities. Both manual and automatic trucks are used. The role may involve repeated lifting up to 50 pounds, moving and maneuvering up to 100 pounds, and mounting/dismounting the truck multiple times per route. Routes may require navigating congested communities and tight city areas, necessitating highly skilled backing maneuvers. Drivers also routinely climb in and out of the truck cab and are responsible for pre and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle compliance with safety standards and regulations.

Requirements

  • 21 Years of Age & Legally Eligible to Work in the United States
  • Valid Class A or B CDL
  • Airbrake Endorsement
  • 1-year CDL driving experience in the last 7 years.
  • Great Safety Record and Clean MVR
  • Working Knowledge of DOT, OSHA & Applicable Traffic Regulations
  • Ability to Speak & Read English to Converse with the General Public, Understand Highway Traffic & Signals, Respond to Official Questions & Make Legible Entries on Reports & Records
  • Ability to Read & Understand a Map
  • Meet Physical & Safety Requirements of the Position.
  • Willing & Able to Work Required Worked Hours as Allowed Under DOT Regulation & May Include Weekend, Night &/Or Holiday Work
  • Side Truck Driving experience in the Waste Industry is a Requirement
  • Highly skilled backing maneuvers are essential.
  • Drivers routinely climb in and out of the truck cab to service customer accounts.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Driver or Helper for a Refuge Company is Highly Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Safely operating front, side, or rear-loading trucks for the pick-up service of bags or containers filled with waste or recyclable material.
  • Transporting material to a disposal, transfer, or recycle facility.
  • Making one or more trips throughout the shift.
  • Performing driver pre and post inspections.
  • Ensuring truck compliance with IWS safety standards, OSHA, DOT regulations, and local traffic laws.
