USA Waste and Recycling is offering a sign-on bonus of up to $3000, depending on experience. The CDL B Commercial Driver operates heavy-duty trucks with frontload, roll-off, and rearload lift attachments, responsible for picking up containers filled with waste or recyclable material. Drivers transport material to disposal, transfer, or recycling facilities and navigate various traffic conditions, requiring highly skilled backing maneuvers.

Requirements

  • 1 year of previous experience operating a vehicle requiring a CDL or equivalent military driving within the last 7 years.
  • Commercial Driver's License B (CDL) with an air brake endorsement.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Acceptable driving record.
  • Complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, physical, and background check, which includes previous employment check, criminal history, and motor vehicle record review.
  • Grit, outgoing, and eager to learn.
  • The environment is fast-paced, and the person in this role must be proactive, hardworking, highly organized, and an independent critical thinker.

Responsibilities

  • Operates vehicles by Safety Rules, Occupational and Safe Health Act (OSHA), and Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements, as well as all local, state, and federal laws.
  • Perform pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicles and document checks utilizing the standard Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR).
  • Immediately report all unsafe situations or service-related issues to the Route Manager or Dispatch.
  • Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by the Company.
  • Works closely with the Route Manager to improve route efficiency and identify best practices.
  • Notifies the route manager of any incident, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
  • Notifies Route Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions, including blocked containers, closed lots, streets, alleyways, or potential safety hazards.
  • Communicates customer requests to Dispatch or Route Manager.
  • Identifies and reports all containers in need of repairs or replacement.
  • Ensures the number of containers on the route reconciles to the service level listed on the service list.
  • Completely dumps all containers and leaves the customer's location clean and debris-free.
  • Completes and submits customer tickets as required when excessive yardage must be removed.
  • Positions and return containers on the customer's property in a manner that ensures lids are properly replaced, enclosure doors are closed and secured, and containers do not block drive entrances or traffic.
  • Follows route assignments as directed and completes the end-of-day documentation and check process.
  • Perform all duties as scheduled by the Route Manager or Dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.
  • Maintains reasonable, regular, punctual attendance consistent with Company policies, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Adapts to changing duties, as required, based on business needs.
