CDL A Local Driver
About The Position
CDL A Local Driver position responsible for transporting, loading, and unloading freight between Service Centers and customers. This role emphasizes work-life balance, a friendly culture, and operating new equipment in clean facilities. The driver will perform pre and post-trip inspections, document freight control processes, read maps and shipping papers, and ensure correct placarding. The position also involves assisting customers with shipping papers, operating a forklift when needed, and participating in company training programs. Flexibility in work schedules and adherence to operational guidelines are expected.
Requirements
- At least 23 years of age
- At least 2 years of commercial driving experience
- Valid Class A CDL with Hazardous Materials and Tank Endorsement
- Valid DOT Physical/Medical Card
- No DUI, Citation/Conviction for Reckless Operations in the past 3 years
- Less than 2 moving violations in the past 3 years
- Basic math skills
- Fluent in English
- Legally eligible to work in the United States
- Able to pass a drug screen
Responsibilities
- Transporting, loading, and unloading freight in a productive, safe, and claims-free manner between Service Centers and customers.
- Performing pre and post-trip inspections on the tractor and trailer.
- Properly documenting all freight control processes.
- Reading and understanding maps, road signs, shipping papers, hazardous materials markings, and labeling identifications.
- Affixing correct placards to tractor/trailer when necessary.
- Maintaining cleanliness of the company vehicle.
- Assisting customers in preparation of shipping papers.
- Interacting and conversing with external/internal customers.
- Safely operating a forklift to unload/load products when indicated and needed.
- Participating in Dayton Freight’s training and improvement programs.
- Being available for irregular work schedules, alternating work shifts and/or assignments.
- Adhering to the operational procedures and guidelines contained in the Dayton Freight Driver/Dockworker Manual.
