About The Position

CJ Hughes Construction is seeking a CDL Driver – Gas Distribution to join a crew and assist in the installation, repair, and replacement of underground natural gas pipelines and related services. This role involves approximately 20% CDL driving duties and 80% laborer duties. It is a physically demanding position requiring work in outdoor construction environments, supporting gas distribution pipeline construction, maintenance, and repair. The individual will operate CDL-required vehicles, perform general labor tasks, and support the crew as needed.

Requirements

  • Valid CDL-A or B Driver’s License (required) (no restriction)
  • Minimum 1 year CDL driving experience
  • Minimum 1 year heavy labor experience
  • Valid DOT Medical Card (or ability to obtain)
  • Knowledge of underground utilities and locator markings
  • Ability to safely operate CDL vehicles in close proximity to workers and utilities
  • Ability to properly secure loads and operate hauling equipment
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Reliable, dependable, and strong work ethic
  • Ability to follow directions and always maintain safety awareness
  • Ability to adapt to changing job sites, schedules, and tasks
  • Valid Drivers License and Reliable Transportation
  • Must provide documentation to verify identity and employment eligibility in accordance with federal I-9 requirements
  • Ability to pass drug test and background check
  • Willingness to travel and work in different areas as needed
  • Commitment to following all Safety Policies and Procedures
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physical labor
  • Ability to work overtime and extended hours based on workload
  • Must be 18 years of age

Responsibilities

  • Operate CDL-required vehicles including dump trucks, trailers, and equipment haulers over 26,000 lbs
  • Haul equipment, pipe, materials, and debris to and from job sites
  • Load, unload, and secure materials using chains, straps, tarps, and other tie-down methods
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections and complete required documentation
  • Maintain driver logs when required
  • Assist crew with labor duties including digging, shoveling, and site preparation
  • Perform heavy lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs on a regular basis
  • Work in various weather conditions and job site environments
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures while maintaining awareness in the “red zone”
  • Perform necessary maintenance on truck (grease truck) if needed
  • Perform duties as assigned by supervisor to support overall crew production and efficiency
