About The Position

Smithfield is hiring a CDL Class A Driver for feed delivery. The role includes completing a driver training program and driving, delivering feed, and loading and unloading while prioritizing safety and animal welfare. Requirements

• Current Class A CDL.
• At least 1 year of commercial motor vehicle (CMV) driving experience.
• At least 21 years old.
• Acceptable driving record.
• Ability to obtain a DOT medical card upon hire.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to connect a trailer to a tractor, including backing under the trailer, raising the landing gear, and hooking up airlines.
• Ability to operate landing gear, including using both hands and the upper torso while it is on the ground.
• Ability to operate a manual transmission tractor.
• Ability to climb into the engine area and bend, stoop, and crawl during equipment pre-trip inspections.
• Ability to open and close trailer gates and doors for loading and unloading animals.
• Ability to enter and exit the cab in tight spaces, such as fuel islands.
• Ability to move the upper torso while backing, including leaning out of a window to see blind spots or mirrors.

Responsibilities

• Successfully complete a driver training program.
• Follow required and recommended safety procedures while driving, delivering feed, and loading or unloading, with animal welfare as the foremost concern.
• Comply with all DOT rules and regulations.
• Promptly report accidents through proper authorities.
• Comply with all rules set forth by the receiving agent.
• Report problems encountered on the farm or designated plant through the swine movement ticket or farm condition report.
• Understand the Smithfield emergency notification process, including how and whom to contact in an emergency.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
