About The Position

Smithfield Foods is seeking motivated individuals to join their team as Feed Delivery Drivers. This role involves safely operating a feed truck, transporting materials between feed mills and farm destinations, and ensuring accurate documentation. The driver will work in a single-driver environment, handle shipping documents, position equipment for safe offloading, and drive day/night in various conditions. Responsibilities include using an on-board computer, maintaining logs, fueling equipment, and pre-loading trailers. Drivers will use navigation tools, communicate with business associates to resolve issues, perform basic calculations related to feed delivery, and comply with all company and DOT regulations, including Bio-Security and Environmental management systems.

Requirements

  • Meet DOT requirements.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • No DUI/DWI or reckless driving convictions in the last ten (10) years while operating a CMV, or within the last three (3) years while operating a Non-CMV.
  • No DOT Recordable preventable accidents within the last three (3) years with a CMV.
  • No more than one (1) moving violation within the last three (3) years.
  • Meet minimum requirements to operate a CMV.
  • Possess a current valid CDL issued from only one State.
  • Knowledgeable of FMCSR.
  • Must be able to pass a DOT Physical upon initial hire.
  • Be able to read and speak the English language.
  • Be able to understand highway traffic signs and signals.
  • Be able to respond to official inquiries and make entries on reports and records.
  • Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable, and team-oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or GED, preferred.
  • 1-year CDL experience desired or completion of 3rd Party Training.
  • Feed delivery experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a feed truck with a capacity of over thirty (30) tons, potentially including tandem trailers.
  • Transport materials to and from specified feed mill and farm destinations.
  • Successfully complete a Road Test and be issued a certificate.
  • Properly perform Pre-Trip and Post-Trip inspections of the equipment.
  • Work in a single driver environment.
  • Handle shipping documents to ensure accuracy and timely submission.
  • Properly position equipment to safely offload feed into feed bins.
  • Drive day/night in a variety of climates and traffic conditions.
  • Use on-board computer.
  • Maintain logs, DVIR, itinerary, and other required paperwork.
  • Fuel equipment and extract on-board computer (or turn in logs) daily.
  • Pre-load trailer for the next shift.
  • Use Farm Directions Book, maps, or GPS for navigation.
  • Communicate with business associates to resolve problems civilly.
  • Calculate simple mathematical problems related to feed delivery.
  • Comply with all Bio-Security (BMS) and Environmental (EMS) management system rules and regulations.
  • Comply with DOT rules and regulations.
  • Comply with all Smithfield established policies and procedures.
