About The Position

Smithfield is seeking a Feed Haul Driver to join their team. This role involves delivering feed to various locations while prioritizing animal welfare and adhering to all safety and DOT regulations. Requirements

  • Current Class A CDL.
  • At least 1 year of commercial driving experience required for CDL training program.
  • At least 21 years old.
  • Acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a DOT medical card upon hire.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule (nights, weekends, and holidays).
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to hook up trailer to tractor, including backing under the trailer, raising landing gear, and hooking up airlines.
  • Ability to roll up and down landing gear.
  • Ability to operate a manual transmission tractor.
  • Ability to climb into engine area; bend, stoop, and crawl to complete pre-trip inspections.
  • Ability to open and close trailer gates and doors to load and unload animals.
  • Ability to get in and out of cab in tight places such as fuel islands.
  • Ability to move upper torso when backing, which may require leaning out of the window to see blind spots and/or mirrors.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or GED, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Successfully complete a driver training program.
  • Follow required and recommended safety procedures while driving, delivering feed, or loading and unloading, with animal welfare as the foremost concern.
  • Comply with all DOT rules and regulations.
  • Report all accidents promptly through proper authorities.
  • Comply with all rules set forth by the receiving agent.
  • Lift 50 pounds.
  • Hook up trailer to tractor, including backing under the trailer, raising landing gear, and hooking up airlines.
  • Roll up and down landing gear.
  • Operate a manual transmission tractor.
  • Climb into engine area; bend, stoop, and crawl to complete pre-trip inspections.
  • Open and close trailer gates and doors to load and unload animals.
  • Get in and out of cab in tight places such as fuel islands.
  • Report problems encountered on the farm or designated plant through the swine movement ticket or farm condition report.
  • Read and understand the Smithfield emergency notification process, knowing how and who to contact in case of an emergency.
