About The Position

Child Development Associate (CDA) Trainees for our Early Head Start program assist Teachers in planning and implementing learning experiences that advance the intellectual, emotional, social, and physical development of children within a safe, healthy learning environment. They encourage the involvement of the families of the children of the program and support the development of relationships between children and their families. These duties are done concurrently while completing required coursework to obtain their CDA credential.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Be able to pass a Criminal Background Check (Federal & State).
  • Be able to pass a Physical.
  • Be able to pass a TB Test.
  • Be able to pass Licensing.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED or AA or BS degree in an unrelated field.
  • Enrolled in a program leading to an associate or baccalaureate degree.
  • Enrolled in a child development associate (CDA) credential program to be completed within 2 years of hire.
  • Currently working on Child Development Associate (CDA) credential obtaining experience working with infants and toddlers or has immediate plans to obtain the credential.
  • Fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or have a valid exemption before commencing employment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Teachers in planning and implementing learning experiences that advance the intellectual, emotional, social, and physical development of children.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy learning environment for children.
  • Encourage the involvement of families of the children in the program.
  • Support the development of relationships between children and their families.
  • Complete required coursework to obtain their CDA credential.
  • Complete 120 clock hours of professional early childhood education, including 10 hours in each of the eight CDA Subject Areas.
  • Gain 480 hours of work experience working with children in the age group matching the CDA application.
  • Pass the written exam.
  • Complete Family Questionnaires and Professional Portfolio.
  • Schedule CDA Council Observation.
  • Be observed by the CDA council.
