About The Position

Graduate Career Assistants are integral members of the CCPD team who help students and alumni build confidence, develop career readiness skills, and pursue meaningful career goals. Following training, Graduate Career Assistants assume increasing responsibility for coaching, presentations, outreach, and strategic projects that advance the Center’s mission.

Requirements

  • Master’s or doctoral student currently enrolled at Mercer University
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Teams, and Excel)
  • Professional written and verbal communication
  • Demonstrated initiative, dependability, interpersonal skills, and sound judgment
  • Complete Application in Workday

  • Cover Letter (maximum two pages) addressing: What are your short-term and long-term academic and professional goals? Why do you believe career development and career coaching are important to student success? How has your background prepared you to provide excellent customer service and student support?

  • Experience in coaching, advising, mentoring, peer leadership, or other helping roles

  • Familiarity with generative AI and productivity tools for communication, research, and content creation
  • Creativity and willingness to learn and grow

Responsibilities

  • Conduct 1:1 and group career coaching appointments with students and alumni
  • Assist students with resumes, interviewing, job search strategies, and career planning
  • Guide students in effectively using Handshake and other digital career resources
  • Create and facilitate workshops and classroom presentations in-person and virtually
  • Develop and implement outreach strategies that engage graduate, professional, and adult learners
  • Collaborate with staff to support career fairs, events, employer programs, and campus initiatives
  • Create videos, graphics, and social media content to engage students
  • Provide excellent customer service to students, alumni, faculty, staff, and employers
  • Represent the Center professionally across campus
  • Serve as a welcoming first point of contact by answering phones, greeting visitors, and assisting guests
  • Maintain organized office, event, and shared spaces
  • Assist with event set-up, breakdown, and post-event restoration
  • Assist staff in data mining and alumni calls for Graduate Career Outcomes information
