Requirements

• Current Certified Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselor (CADC) credential in good standing with the Illinois Certification Board, required.
• High School Diploma/GED, required.
• Minimum of 2,000 to 4,000 hours of supervised work experience in an addictions setting (depending on degree level), required.
• Proficiency in using Electronic Health Records, required.
• Knowledge of ASAM criteria for substance use disorder triage, required.
• Satisfactorily pass all relevant screenings and background checks.

Nice To Haves

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral science field is strongly preferred to meet MHP/QMHP status.
• Certified Reciprocal Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselor (CRADC).
• 6,000 hours of supervised work (reduced with a college degree).
• Specialized training in services for adolescents/families (30 hours) and women/families (30 hours).
• Passing the IC&RC Alcohol and Drug Counseling (ADC) examination.
• Certified Advanced Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselor (CAADC).
• Master’s Degree or higher in a behavioral science field with a clinical application (e.g., Counseling, Social Work, or Psychology).
• 180 hours of addiction-specific education, including 45-hour concentrations in both adolescent/family and women/family services.
• 2,000 hours of supervised clinical experience post-master's.
• Passing the IC&RC Advanced Alcohol & Drug Counselor (AADC) examination.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish).
• Experience serving Veterans and their families.

Responsibilities

• Conduct biopsychosocial assessments to diagnose substance use disorders, evaluate clients' readiness for treatment, and determine the appropriate American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) level of care.
• Facilitate intensive outpatient (IOP) and outpatient individual, group, and family counseling sessions using evidence-based practices like Motivational Interviewing and CBT.
• Educate clients and their families about addiction, treatment options, and recovery strategies.
• Develop and update individualized treatment plans that integrate physical health and mental health goals in accordance with Illinois CCBHC standards.
• Coordinate with medical staff to support clients receiving medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) and other FDA-approved treatments.
• Provide immediate support and de-escalation for clients experiencing overdose risk or acute withdrawal.
• Provide case management and aftercare planning to support long-term recovery.
• Collaborate with the CCBHC treatment team, external providers, courts, and probation officers to support the client’s continuum of care.
• Maintain timely and accurate electronic health records (EHR) in compliance with 42 CFR Part 2 and HIPAA standards.
• Effectively work with diverse staff and service population.
• Other duties as assigned.
