About The Position

Western Specialty Contractors is seeking self-motivated, top-notch individuals to serve customers as a Skilled Caulker at their Des Moines, IA branch. This role is responsible for performing work within a particular work area in accordance with generally accepted standards of the crafts. Experienced skilled laborers are encouraged to apply. The company is employee-owned through an ESOP, emphasizing a culture where team members have a stake in success and look out for each other.

Requirements

• Experience in a trade or craft is preferred.
• Must be able to demonstrate sufficient reading, writing and math skills to comprehend and explain company safety policies and material instruction.
• Must be comfortable working at heights.
• Must be comfortable working outdoors in high temperatures.
• Must be able to use logical step-by-step procedures in working with different materials using a variety of skills.
• Must be able to work within precise limits or standards of accuracy and be able to judge straight lines, spaces and proportions.
• Must have the ability to read drawings
• Identify existing and predictable hazards in work surroundings, including working conditions that are unsanitary, hazardous or dangerous to employees.
• Must be able to: Stand or walk for long periods; lift and carry materials weighing 50 pounds or more; climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolds and other objects and carry tools and equipment; and see well (either naturally or with correction).
• Must be able to work at heights and at extreme temperatures, and wear company’s safety equipment.
• Must have own “hand tools of the trade.”
• May be required to work weekends, nights, and out of town.
• Must have reliable transportation.

Nice To Haves

• Practical caulking experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Cut out sealant, pack and shoot new sealant at a high quality.
• Masonry caulking
• Doubt tee parking garage caulking.
• Window perimeter caulking.
• Control joint caulking
• Window wet sealing
• Perform all window perimeter sealant replacement.
• Rigging.
• Working on scaffolding.
