About The Position

The Cathode R&D Intern will support lithium-sulfur cathode formulation development and coating activities within the R&D cathode team. This role will focus on binder formulation screening, electrode processing, and characterization to help understand relationships between binder systems, electrode properties, and cell performance. This intern will support both early-stage formulation studies and larger-scale coating activities.

Requirements

Studying towards a BS, MS, or PhD degree in chemical engineering, materials science, chemistry, or related fields.
Prior experience working in laboratory or research environments (academic or industry).
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Exceptional analytical and documentation skills.
Ability to learn new skills and ask for help when needed.
Capable of working independently with direction.

Nice To Haves

Experience with slurry processing, rheology, coatings, or material characterization is a plus.

Responsibilities

Support development and optimization of cathode slurry formulations through iterative experimental studies
Prepare laboratory-scale slurry formulations and cast on aluminum current collectors using doctor blade techniques
Assist with scale-up coating activities, including slurry preparation and coating support
Perform slurry and electrode characterization, including viscosity, Hegman, moisture, adhesion, and pH measurements
Analyze and document experimental observations, process conditions, and characterization results
Analyze and summarize electrochemical performance data from coin cells
Prepare binder stock solutions and maintain slurry material inventory
Collaborate with cathode team members to support routine characterization and ongoing R&D activities
Maintain safe laboratory practices and clean workspaces
