About The Position

This position assists the physician in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular disease and cardiac arrhythmias. The role functions in the capacities of scrub assistant, monitor, and circulator, operating various equipment utilized in the cath lab. Responsibilities include admitting and orienting patients, accurately entering patient information into databases, explaining procedures to patients and families, maintaining a sterile field, monitoring patient vital signs and procedural documentation, and operating various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment safely and effectively. The role also involves observing occupational and radiation safety regulations, wearing appropriate protective gear, and demonstrating a commitment to continued professional growth and staying updated with technological advancements.

Requirements

  • Current CPR certification required or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required within six (6) months from date of hire into classification.
  • Currently registered as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) and/or American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT).
  • Two years' experience in a cardiac catheterization lab or electrophysiology lab may substitute for licensure/certification/registration requirement.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the physician in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular disease and cardiac arrhythmias.
  • Function in the roles of scrub assistant, monitor and circulator.
  • Operate various equipment utilized in the cath lab.
  • Admit and orient patient to cardiac cath lab according to pre-procedural checklist.
  • Accurately enter patient information to database, hemodynamic and x-ray systems.
  • Explain testing procedure to patient and/or significant others including exam to be performed, type of contrast media used, length of exam and equipment necessary to perform exam.
  • Function as a scrub assistant; establish and maintain sterile field according to department/institution policy.
  • Follow all guidelines regarding infection control.
  • Function in the role of monitor; operate EKG, x-ray and hemodynamic equipment to monitor changes in patient's blood pressure, heart rate, EKG and pulse oximetry during diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.
  • Intervene appropriately to changes in patient's physiological status.
  • Interact with patient as to his/her comfort and safety, monitor patient vital signs and procedural documentation, set up and maintain equipment and treatment room during diagnostic or therapeutic procedure, run blood oximetry for cardiac output and assist physician with various diagnostic and mapping systems.
  • Operate various equipment used in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including but not limited to, Hemodynamic monitoring, defibrillator, intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), poser injector, stents, rotoblator, temporary pacemakers, TEC device, angiojet and x-ray in a safe and effective manner.
  • Observe all occupational and radiation safety regulations.
  • Wear appropriate protective aprons, goggles and gloves.
  • Demonstrate a responsible attitude toward continued professional growth.
  • Maintain all required certifications/licensures; complete all mandatory education requirements.
  • Stay abreast of changes in technology.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
